Troy
It is 1250 B.C. Two nations: Troy and Sparta. They begin to clash after Paris (Orlando Bloom) steals Helen (Diane Kruger), wife of Spartan king, Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson) and take her back to his nation, Troy. Menelaus is enraged on the loss of his Honor and requests his brother, Agamemnon (Brian Cox) to take revenge. Agamemnon, greedy for more power, agrees to help. They set sail for Troy with 1000 ships and 50,000 soldiers. Odysseus (Sean Bean) convinces Achilles (Brad Pitt) to come to Troy for the greatest battle in history. He agrees and after reaching Troy, he, and his soldiers defile the Trojan temple and take Briseis (Rose Byrne) as war prize.

Paris challenges Menelaus for a one-on-one battle to which Menelaus concedes. Paris is defeated obviously, but to save him, Hector (Sean Bana) kills Menelaus. Agamemnon’s soldiers charge towards Trojan lines but fall back due to archers on the walls on Troy. Meanwhile, Hector confuses Achilles cousin for Achilles and mistakenly slays him. When Achilles comes to know of this, he vows for revenge against Hector. The very next day, he comes alone to the gates of Troy and shouts for Hector to come and fight him forlorn. Hector comes to fight him after saying goodbyes to his family and friends. During an awe-inspiring and one of the greatest battles in the history of the world, depicted very gorgeously by Director Wolfgang Peterson, Achilles kills Hector. Achilles drags Hector’s body behind his chariot towards the Greek camp. But on the request of Priam (Hector’s father), Achilles give Hector’s body back and also allow 12 days to the Trojans to mourn for Hector’s death.

During the 12 days that Trojans are mourning, they make a plan to enter the city by hiding under a hollowed-out horse. The horse is entered into the city as an offering to Poseidon. Achilles along with his fellows opens the main gates to Troy so that the bulk of the army could enter. Reign of terror and arson is set loose. The soldiers set themselves about looting the city and setting fire to Troy. Meanwhile, the royal family escapes through the secret passage. Briseis kills Agamemnon and is saved from Agamemnon soldiers by Achilles. Paris shoots Achilles in the heel then in torso. He dies of his wounds watching the others evanesce.

The movie is a blast, bombastic, wonderful, and eye-opening. But the similarities between Homer’s Iliad and Troy movie are laxly based. The movie made the characters less brutal and the city of Troy a little bit too sophisticated. But the movie is fun to watch and enjoyable.
